They're not "making stuff up" though. They are applying the best public health practice and a precautionary approach, instead of recommending things for which they have no evidence of efficacy.

Sometimes that means they make bad calls, like probably with the face masks, but it It would be helpful to put WHO statements in context instead of saying "these guys are idiots". If people think there's no difference between the WHO and Dr Oz, we are totally screwed.
