I've been wondering about this. Given that the virus doesn't get thru the skin, it seems to me that gloves, outside a medical care facility obviously, can give a false sense of security. Touch an infected surface, then touch your face, gloves or no gloves…

I wear gloves in stores but treat them like hands! (I sanitize over them because I got sick of chapped skin because of hand-sanitizing). Gloves are different than masks: masks block respiratory droplets from getting out. Hands, gloved or not, carry but do not expel the virus.

I don't think people need to wear gloves per se, except for the reason I outlined though it's an interesting scientific question if skin is more efficient than gloves in transmitting but I'm sure both can transmit so I'd treat both the same.
