There was no reason really to assume *a priori* there would be no immunity (we just don't know how long it may last) and there is no reason *yet* to assume this will mutate so fast that we can't get ahead of it. We have enough realistic risks and concrete steps we need to take.

I think the aim of both of those viewpoints is to make all the precautions / preparations / quarantines and such seem pointless in that they're either too much, or useless.

Or more rarely on the other extreme with mutantnijasupervirus that they ought to be so much more severe.

Is it just me or is anyone else horrified that mainstream media such as the LA Times is reporting on a medical paper that has not even been peer-reviewed yet and is not even interpreting the claims in them correctly?

I was horrified a few times, now numb. Almost all big ‘reputed’ outlets have been doing this at least since March, mainlining raw science and whatever publicity seekers push into their hands, and publishing it on deadline.
