California did everything right, shutting down the state before it needed to. Deaths per 100,000: 5. Florida and Texas did everything wrong, acting too late, leaving beaches open. Deaths per 100,000: Florida: 6, Texas: 3.

Their baseline risk wasn't the same though. They didn't start from the same place or with the same dynamics re:density/travel work patterns. Plus, beaches don't need to be closed, not a big factor. It's the crowded indoors/conferences/workplaces/public transportation that matter.

I think overreaction made sense at first (who knew what was what?) but yeah, at this point, that makes no sense. There is little evidence of fomite transmission but okay let's consider that it's a risk. Use two different color or brand balls, everyone picks up their own color...
