It's still a puzzle but I really, really hope that Africa is indeed spared the worst of this pandemic. https://www.ft.com/content/e9cf5ed0-a590-4bd6-8c00-b41d0c4ae6e0 …pic.twitter.com/NKfbt8vNxJ

I SUSPECT it is a less mobile population: With 2 days of presymptomatic spread fueling this thing, if the population is less mobile this is going to be far less of a problem.

The most affected regions are also the most globally connected. Less visited places have fewer cases in just about every country.

I have wondered if 'developing' countries with very young populations will actually be spared this more than people have feared. In many of these countries, the lifespan is already short due to disease, accidents, poverty, famine, and other factors.

If age and pre-existing health conditions put you at high risk, in these countries, the pre-existing conditions may either kill you sooner (e.g., heart disease) or never develop due to diet and lifestyle (e.g., obesity, diabetes).

My crazy delusional guess will be Africa overall will fare better than the major cities in the U.S., overall.

Also remember that heat and humidity kill the virus faster, and much of Africa is hot, humid, or both.

My fear is how it would interact with AIDS/HIV infections. But, otherwise having a median age of 20 suggests that they have significantly less 60+ at-risk population, which is promising.

Would love for it to be true but am dubious, especially given govt responses. See Burundi, and also Uganda, where an opposition member of parliament is basically being denied proper care. Exception: currently wondering if central HVAC aids spread, and there's less of that there.

Air travel. March 18 2019 (left) vs. March 23 2020 (right). Africa looks like it has the least air travel out of all the continents (aside from Antartica). Photos from @guardiannewspic.twitter.com/DkqqDLuKH2
