The secret behind many of the beach-shaming photos! (Of all the places to go outdoors—and we should go outdoors for immunity, health and mental health– hard to think of better ones than beaches: sunny, ventilated, large). But tweet a shaming pic of a beach, get a zillion RTs!🤷‍♀️https://twitter.com/baekdal/status/1254460167812415489 …

Danish news site reminds people of being skeptical of how news photographers take pictures. Here is the same place, one picture taken with a zoom lense, and the other with a wide-angle lense: https://nyheder.tv2.dk/samfund/2020-04-26-hvor-taet-er-folk-paa-hinanden-disse-billeder-er-taget-samtidig-men-viser-to … pic.twitter.com/mOSpiFEsDx

Truth. Though nitpicks: * TELEPHOTO, not zoom. Wide-angle zoom lenses are a thing (my 16-35mm/2.8 is my favorite). It's not the zooming, it's the focal length that matters. Telephoto lenses compress distance. * There's no such word as "lense" in any version of English.

Not all long-focal-length lenses are telephoto lenses. "A telephoto lens, in photography and cinematography, is a specific type of a long-focus lens in which the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length."https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephoto_lens …

In a lot of the pictures of parks and beaches, I think it's usually clear that people are staying 6 feet away from people *whom they are not isolating with (i. e. significant other)*. They are obeying the rules. If that's not what the rules intend they should be clearer.

Plus my local beach is mostly shingle, which tends to deter joggers and cyclists

The problem isn't going to the beach. The problem is large groups of people **who don't live together** gathered for the entire day. And within those groups, there was no physical distancing. Isn't that how the college kids in Texas got sick?

Not hanging out with people you don't live with is part of the stay at home order, i.e. the law. From @lapublichealth: "All public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit remain prohibited."

Good tweet. The contagion is mostly in confined areas, very low risk outdoors if social distancing is respected. It is tough for everybody staying at home, blaming those who do outdoors activities safely is inaccurate and wrong.

Second photo is a non-sequitur. Follow you religiously, but surprised at this elementary mistake. Pan second camera to left for real comparison.
