I did my gut check with local Facebook groups this morning, and indeed, one person had posted an article about getting to herd immunity was immediately jumped on with "so you want to kill grandma, you murderer!". Reality is we have to open up, but with preparation and caution.

I'm not trying to disagree with the point you're making; I need to find time to sit with it first. But if epidemiologists make this analogy, I suspect it's more because of what they don't know about wildfire than what they do.

Yeah, sure. Metaphors never really fully work anyway. I know the epi side, not fires. Was trying to find a metaphor because there is so much resistance to the idea that suppression itself has risks. But read the papers! Linked in the thread. It's not a strategy for more deaths.

I think part of problem is the coldness of that paragraph from the article discussing
@mlipsitch recommendation. Intentionally allowing more people to get COVID now, when we are certain we aren’t prepared from a treatment perspective, just seems brutal.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

People don’t seem to have absorbed the fact that the vast majority get sick by breathing infected people’s accumulated breath and not from passing a masked person in a market. So don’t be in a car/elevator/room with an infected person, masked or not. Is this right?
