This is just wrong. Test-and-Trace + masks + distancing can suppress coronavirus and allow a partial return to normality until we get treatment/vaccine (which is likely, and not a "miracle"). Talk of "going for herd immunity" is just as bad now as it was in the UK 2 months ago. https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1253677705205334017 …

Did you read the rest of the thread? "Partial return to normalcy" is under controlled conditions while not making the epidemic worse is exactly what it's about. Can you please not quote tweet like this?

I'm sorry, but talk of "going for herd immunity" is utterly irresponsible. Even if herd immunity is possible (which we don't know), it requires that a vast number of our people die of coronavirus, when in fact we can prevent that. Nor is treatment a "miracle".

You are not representing the discussion correctly. The quote and your interpretation is wrong. There needs to be a discussion of what a partial normalcy looks like and why. Nobody is advocating for vast number of people to die. (Seriously?). The question is how to lower deaths.

But they are not advocating for "herd immunity", nor does it have anything to do with what I'm saying. Anyway, I think I made my point clear. It's not a lazy statement.
