The unfortunate reality is that we are likely to open up in the worst possible way: relax restrictions too early because of political polarization and/or inability to provide proper financial relief to those affected and/or the unscientific policies of closing all parks etc.

Does it mean "let's 60% of us get the virus?"
-
Some unknown to-be-determined percentage, yes. Assuming one gains some level of immunity from having had the virus, which is still unknown.

Another reason to postpone Mass contagion (or any amount of increase) is to give medical researchers time to digest what has happened in Covid-19 ICUs and solidify best standards of care. This could save the lives of people who get sick later, but not sooner.
-
Also to give hard hit medical facilities a chance to recover, both supplies and their personnel. There’s zero legitimate reason that full PPE couldn’t be available before any region begins relaxing their lock-down. A *lot* more needs to be done for healthcare workers.

No, the Herd Immunity strategy without a vaccine is going for hundreds of thousands dying, if not millions. That's a fundamentally flawed approach. Show me one country that's successfully implementing it. Look at Germany and South Korea as models of Test + Trace + Isolation.

I don’t think that’s what
@Noahpinion means. It’s not all the herd if that’s what was understood. Could be wrong that’s my sense toughThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

What about eradication? We went for eradication with a bunch of contagious diseases (polio, etc) what throw our hands up and give up when it comes to Covid-19? And how would trending-to-zero-new-cases countries like New Zealand deal with travelers from herd immunity countries?

Also, no need to send me media articles about our uncertainty about SARS-CoV-2 immunity. Yes, that's our reality.
