This is just wrong. Test-and-Trace + masks + distancing can suppress coronavirus and allow a partial return to normality until we get treatment/vaccine (which is likely, and not a "miracle"). Talk of "going for herd immunity" is just as bad now as it was in the UK 2 months ago. https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1253677705205334017 …

What I'm pointing out is exactly, this, there needs to be real discussion of how to open in order to lower deaths, and you are jumping on this to claim this is just saying let's kill off lots of people to save the group. That's not it at all. Read the discussion/papers.

Do you understand what "herd immunity" without a vaccine requires? You understand that *even if herd immunity is possible with this disease*, it requires that a majority of our population be infected with it, meaning enormous numbers of deaths? You understand that, right??

Most countries in Europe are getting ready to end lockdown, try and keep the R0 to 1 or close to it, and slowly, slowly have people get infected. Are they all evil and crazy? You don’t necessarily have to get to herd immunity, but you don’t try and stop all infections

But they are not advocating for "herd immunity", nor does it have anything to do with what I'm saying. Anyway, I think I made my point clear. It's not a lazy statement.
