This is just wrong. Test-and-Trace + masks + distancing can suppress coronavirus and allow a partial return to normality until we get treatment/vaccine (which is likely, and not a "miracle"). Talk of "going for herd immunity" is just as bad now as it was in the UK 2 months ago. https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1253677705205334017 …

I'm sorry, but talk of "going for herd immunity" is utterly irresponsible. Even if herd immunity is possible (which we don't know), it requires that a vast number of our people die of coronavirus, when in fact we can prevent that. Nor is treatment a "miracle".

Treatment is incremental. We have learned in the past 1-2 months better protocols for use of ventilators, now starting to understand clotting effects, probably better not to use HCQ (in at least some cases), etc. Anything that even *delays* cases improves outcomes.

I read the whole thread. You're very clearly stating that the only path forward is either treatment or herd immunity. This seems wrong. There is a very credible way forward through mass testing, which will not require herd immunity. You are choosing to ignore this option.
