Went to a grocery store for the first time in a while. Fewer customers allowed in at a time: Good. Plexiglass between clerk and customer: Great! I used to be the only person with a mask now it's ~everyone: Yeay! Still I think grocery workers need N95s as soon as shortages allow.

We all should wear at least cloth masks when indoors around other people to protect the people who work there. All the checkout clerks had were cotton masks: that's good for protecting others but won't stop them from being infected especially since not everyone is wearing a mask.

Couldn’t pay me enough to work in a store or drive a bus right now.

Wearing a face mask in NY is a condition of employment currently. So if you’re unwilling to wear one you can kiss your job goodbye. But if you’re immunocompromised with my employer there are job protections in place if you feel safer @ home. Disability pay if dxed.

Where I live in rural Western Washington State only a tiny fraction of people wear masks. It sucks!

I would like to see voluntary self-layoffs permitted for people who are at higher risk, let's pay them to stay home, and younger, healthy folks eager to get back to work (who don't live with someone high-risk) can take over these high-exposure positions.

Problem with that is that employers could use this as a pretext to cycle out older employees, circumventing the normal civil rights protections based on age, and refuse to rehire them after the situation passes

Grocery workers should wear masks that block outgoing too. The guy at the deli counter, talking all the way as he pulls out the cheese block, slices it, weighs it ("It's a little over half, is that okay?"), and bags it, is talking droplets over the food. (I got a whistler twice.)
