I’m looking at this picture and all I see is people with way more than six feet between them in a sunny and well-ventilated area. I wish they had masks on, but what’s else is the problem? Given how large beaches are, is there a safer way to go outdoors? I don’t get beach outrage. https://twitter.com/travisakers/status/1251260796476305409 …

First of all, that's a mighty big assumption you're making, and second of all, I think beaches are low hanging fruit. Hospital employees and other essential workers taking the subway are hard to eliminate.

How will those 'groups / not groups' keep 6 feet of space around them as they move over the beach? Fine if everyone is stationary, but once people start moving, the 6 feet is unsustainable and out of anyone's control.

wind makes the situation much worse than in closed space, id presume. Droplets get transported more easily and farther. It’s risky. But i do admire the courage it takes to confidently say there are no risks.

There are always risks. If we are going to do this for a year, we need to know what the high risks are and adjust. Keeping people crammed indoors for a year is also a risk. I wish there was a magic wand with no risk.

It's amazing that you look at a pic and do not evalute the "before"s and "after"s that are bound to come hand in hand with it. Any gathering means more travel, more socialization. Plus, cough and sneeze eject droplets to not 6 but 18 feet away, open air can not protect you from >

> whatever risk any random person by your side pose by even merely talking, much less sneezing, AND people are getting into water altogether! It doesn't matter one bit wheter it is "not a pool, but open water", they are practically sharing the very same *pool* of contamination >

This is a weird take. I think you can concede the point: the pic shows plenty of people NOT maintaining six feet. But the larger point is still valid: closing beaches is not necessarily wise, either! Open the beaches, aggressively educate.

Do you maintain 6 feet separation in your home? The people clumped together on the beach are probably family units or otherwise roommates, no?

“... I'd recommend masks but that's a low risk pic...” *Recommend*? *Low risk*? Based on what expertise?

Mentioning 6ft indoors with your family indicates that you don't have a full understanding of what a quarantine is.
