I’m looking at this picture and all I see is people with way more than six feet between them in a sunny and well-ventilated area. I wish they had masks on, but what’s else is the problem? Given how large beaches are, is there a safer way to go outdoors? I don’t get beach outrage. https://twitter.com/travisakers/status/1251260796476305409 …

I don’t see how w/ any level of certainty one can say people are 6 feet apart in that picture at all. Many of them look clumped together. That aside, places where large amounts of people congregate at the same time (such as a beach that just opened) seems ripe for transmission

There is a level of signaling in opening places that before seemed to be nonessential- I can’t predict exactly how people will react, but if it gives them a false sense of security that the response is under control, then I think it will have ripple effects.

That beach is huge! I agree we should communicate large outdoors spaces being sensible with distancing doesn’t mean indoor restaurants etc. are safe. Or subways. Masks would be good. But this will last a year? Beaches seem like a good way to go out (people have to go out some).

You know I am pro-open spaces, but there are lots of people in this image very clearly not standing six feet apart...maybe they are all part of the same family group but I doubt it. There is a way to safely let people enjoy public spaces, but I don’t think that is happening here.

The facilities that they all have to share are an issue.

We live near these beaches and my impression is that after the access for beach was closed weeks ago, people are being more careful now. Hope the care continues, because it is great option for sustaining mental health

I'm hearing from some local people that sidewalks were crowded as people lost beach access. I have actually heard this from many places: close big parks, people crowd in sidewalks or whatever is left open. Better to manage congestion than have haphazard unregulated cramming.

Paths to beaches are the narrow end of a funnel, where that many people can't be 6 feet apart.
