I’m looking at this picture and all I see is people with way more than six feet between them in a sunny and well-ventilated area. I wish they had masks on, but what’s else is the problem? Given how large beaches are, is there a safer way to go outdoors? I don’t get beach outrage. https://twitter.com/travisakers/status/1251260796476305409 …

If it can survive in the air for between 1-3 hours, what are the odds that people are wandering through droplets left by someone else minutes before, or the wind blows droplets towards you?

Clearly not a rational reaction, but misery loves company, and with a lot of people are stuck at home, I think the reactions are coming for an emotional, and angry place.

This is a great take.

Some of it’s partisan, some of it’s moral panic, some of it is probably a belief that any attempt to live normally “creates the wrong image” or somehow undermines the effort to combat the virus. People are importing sentiment against “normalizing” things from other contexts.

I have read some say that with the breezes that come off the ocean, the chance of it traveling faster and further between people is there. But we are walking outside on trails in NM, and it’s keeping us healthier and happier. Exercise is an important part of coping with all this.

It is more than that though- the beaches open means more travel, more stops at gas stations, bathrooms, stores, etc and ultimately more spread. It’s like the State parks trailheads here being closed even though the forest is a healthy outlet but only when all outlets have PPE.
