We won't even get takeout. I don't trust the restaurant industry to keep sick employees home and I already know of one case where a sick person was forced to go in or else lose her job.

You want random people who are to poor to stay home sick or well coughing on your food. It’s bad enough what is happening at the meat packaging companies where people are dying daily. I cook that food myself. I’m going to err on the side of caution. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/04/how-does-coronavirus-kill-clinicians-trace-ferocious-rampage-through-body-brain-toes# …

Of course you should do what you feel comfortable but I have seen no evidence for or reason to believe this respiratory virus being food-borne. Do you have any examples or papers?

If the guy who hands me the box has it and I touch the box I could get it. I’m not saying it’s a food borne illness. I want to avoid sick people until more info on CFR and long term health effects. I keep seeing people who are younger and in better shape getting sick and dying.

1/Unfortunately, food service employees have little to no sick time. They are deemed essential, so can't just quit and get unemployment. Employers so far haven't given them masks, so even asymptomatic employees could contaminate the plastic boxes the food is in and we open.

2/ Per the NEJM surface stability study...72 hours. One last thought....and it's a dark one, I'm sorry. If you are stuck working a minimum-wage job where you are providing food to people getting unemployment plus an extra $600/ week, would you take any extra precautions?

That’s 72 hours for evidence in a PCR machine not a virus that can necessarily infect you. That’s like finding a fingerprint, not a finger that can pull the trigger. I feel comfortable washing my hands after opening a box—especially a cardboard box. Porous surface.

I think there’s too much anxiety around delivery boxes that’s not supported by science. Sure, let’s take precautions and wash our hands. I do. I’d sanitize high-touch stainless steel type surfaces. But don’t see a lot of issues with delivery for myself.

If I guy hands me a box that is less than 72 seconds not 72 hours.

I think there is a sense for some that if you come into contact with the virus at all you will get sick. Useful and probably overkill but what the heck protocol for delivery: pay online (incl big tip!). Delivery person can put the bag down (wave brightly and say thanks!) 1/

2/ transfer the food to your own dishes, wash or discard containers and bag. Heat food in the microwave if you are worried someone may have sneezed on it (prob overkill but if it makes you feel better...). Wash hands! Don’t touch your face in the meantime. You will be fine.
