Look, there is literally nothing I can do to improve the supply of N95 masks for healthcare, but if I have an old N95 (in good condition) that I used last year for sanding, I'm going to use it. Telling people otherwise is the same sort of misguided advice as 'dont use masks' was.

If you know you don’t have it—couldn’t have it—then a valved mask is fine. Those of us who haven’t left home for weeks are good candidates for valved masks.
