We can say the obvious: the WHO failed us. It parroted China’s coverup and lies until it was too late—including covering up the human-to-human transmission despite Taiwan informing it. The US administration wants to use that as an excuse for its own failings. Also no to that.

Some tech folks have been attacking the WHO. WHO: - deemed virus an emergency in January - urged countries to test + isolate; take covid seriously - offered the US tests; US declined - set up a global clinical trial to evaluate treatments, US refused to join Who's the problem?

The problem is very clear, they let China cover up the human-to-human transmission until too late and parroted China's line on everything.

Their advice has only spread of the virus. They told countries to keep travel open with China, enabling it to spread internationally.

There wasn’t clear human to human transmission. Once China had confirmed it , it informed WHO right away and WHO informed the world right away. That was January .

As part of the UN, the WHO doesn’t have much political capital on their own. Historically, they’d lean on the US to put pressure to let investigators in and do the hard work — happened a lot under Obama. Despite that, they offered strict warnings and playbooks as of January.

January was not too late . China took extreme measures and the west laughed and said over reacted . SK Japan and Singapore took it seriously and controlled it .
