Oh are we only talking about essential workers? Yes they should wear PPE. But I know we are not when you say "open the parks". Everyone else should not be out in the parks wearing masks. You are completely distracting people from what is important and proven to work.

We cannot keep parks closed for a year. People just crowd into streets. We get worse effects. My article is pretty clear on need to make outdoors compatible with distancing and add to space (golf course, stadiums). I'd agree if this were two weeks. It's not gonna work for a year.

Jeez how about you bring this up in a few weeks when everyone isn't dying at record high rates. This is so ridiculous. Surreal, actually, that this is a conversation. I guess you must not be very close to the death that's happening all around you. My colleagues are dying.

I recall at least one paper noting a higher rate of flu transmission if you were wearing a cloth mask than no mask at all.

Thank you. I'm so pissed at all the mask talk, the CDC for the stupid "make you own cloth mask!" primer, what BS. We need goddamn tests! We need people to stay home!

We need all the rest, but we also should have listened to the scientists in much more successful countries. https://twitter.com/lwcalex/status/1235091542219448321 …

We don't have all the "rest" as you call it, though it is the core of pandemic mitigation, but here you are highly focused on the masks. Spend your time drawing attention to the fact that we have less testing per capita than any of these successful places. See: Germany.

Many people are covering all that, and I don't disagree with what a disgrace it's been and often say so! Btw German Medical Association recommends masks. There is no reason for hostility to something that will help reduce the pileup at the hospitals.https://twitter.com/RugeBoris/status/1243445606548455424 …

The time to discuss masks is when it's under control. They have it under control. Also they didn't get to having it under control with masks. They did it with all the "rest". Masks aren't going to reduce the pileup, it's social distancing, testing, tracing.

Hong Kong health authorities disagree with you on how much it helps get it under control. Not one person is saying masks are enough and that's all we will do (though Japan is instructive, only masks no tracing or isolation and much slower epidemic). https://twitter.com/lwcalex/status/1235091542219448321 …

But honestly, I think the scientific case has been clear enough and I would rather not keep repeating it.

The scientific case isn't clear on masks. COVID19 has only been around a short time and it's spread with or without masks has not been studied enough to definitively say.

What works is testing, tracing, and isolation. Not the masks.
