so glad @zeynep wrote this. Park closures amount to "pandemic theatre," pushed less by medical pros or epidemiologists than by local officials wanting to look like they're "doing something" and "taking the virus seriously." Going to parks is good!

“If I can’t go to the park for a few weeks I will surely perish” is selfish and shortsighted. Trying to stop a pandemic is like herding cats. Cats give a fuck about themselves and do what they want, it’s an apt comparison.
