Great post on why we must all wear masks—to normalize them for everyone else. Yes! But please, if you see someone wearing an N95 or a surgical mask, don’t shame them. You don’t know people’s health status. Some people are sanitizing and reusing. Some have one leftover mask.https://twitter.com/Pinboard/status/1246459633515913216 …

So if you can avoid going out, great. Please do! If you gotta go out, mask up! If you see people wearing masks, give them the nod! From afar! The sooner we normalize mask wearing, the sooner we can help dampen this epidemic. Not much else is as much under our control as this.

+1. A immunocompromised friend had a leftover N95 mask from the smoke season in CA but was too worried to wear it :( Partners / carers of immunocompromised people might wear a reused N95 too if they live in a single domicile and want to minimize risk of transmission.

I was out for a walk the other day wearing my reusable N95 mask that I have for allergies, and somebody screamed, "CORONA," out the window of their car at me. Because I guess, heaven forbid you try and avoid a sinus infection during a pandemic.

You might just need to move.

Also, quite a few of us have lightly-used N95 masks left over from DIY projects that can’t be donated. I’ve heard of some being afraid to wear these because they might feel judged. The message should be don’t *hoard* N95 masks, not *don’t wear* them.

Thank you for this sensible take—as usual
@zeynep! I found a couple N95 masks in tool bag—who knows how old?!—that suddenly became lifelines for vulnerable members of my household. We got dirty looks wearing them two weeks ago when we had to go out but felt we had no choice.

Many have opened up box of N95. Doubt those can be donated since you cannot determine if it has been used or not. Don't prejudge people.

That is my worry. We have an n95 that we bought (and used ) last year for my husbands allergies when he mowed the lawn. I wore it out to go to grocery & felt weird bc they are in such demand. But it was used.

My close friend has asthma and always buys wears & wears N95 masks. She gave me 2, two years ago when my area had fires. I didn’t store them in a way so they’re still sterilized or I’d donate them. I am afraid to use them in public. We have to better than this.
