Ok, Twitter, you asked for it, I promised it, and here it is: 4200 words on #Masks. Should everyone wear masks? The simple answer is there is no simple answer, but we're getting there. #Masks4All #coronavirus #COVID19https://www.forbes.com/sites/tarahaelle/2020/04/01/should-everyone-wear-a-mask-in-public-maybe-but-its-complicated/ …
Saying it’s for comfort as if it were a good luck charm rather than a scientifically-sound practice is condescending and insulting. People wrote articles like that about Hong Kong! Can you imagine if someone said vaccinations may not work but feel free if it feels comfortable??

Nor did I imply it was akin to superstition. There can be more than one reason for doing something, including science-based behaviors.

I don't know if it's condescending and insulting or not. We'd need to ask the people who are wearing masks. We don't get to decide their reason for them. I think a scientific approach could take the psychology of reassurance into consideration as a valid motivator of behavior.

Yes,
@simontmunro, that's exactly what I was trying to say in my response to@RandiMHernandez. It seems I didn't communicate that adequately.

Saying that someone should only be wearing a mask for scientifically sound practice and not for comfort could also be condescending and insulting to those who would like to be comforted at a time of global disease, death and economic collapse.
