Journalist/media friends: You probably get a lot of junk coronavirus PR nowadays—I certainly do. I used to ignore such stuff and just delete but now I'm diligently reporting them as spam/junk on all platforms that I can. Please do so as well!

Also, Twitter friends: I'm genuinely not seeing all my mentions. (I turn the algorithm off but probably too many to see). If I don't reply to your message, even though we're friends, it's probably because I didn't see it.
I do try to keep up but can't. Other channels better.1 reply 1 retweet 24 likesShow this thread -

This is exactly why I am diligently reporting the spam as spam. I used to delete. Now I report, even though I'm not sure it helps. If we all do, it will make the signal stronger.https://twitter.com/HelenBranswell/status/1242164843723010049 …

Helen BranswellVerified account @HelenBranswellDear PR Professional: Please don't send out press releases right now that would be of marginal interest in normal times. The email volume reporters are getting is off the chart. Stuff that has no hope of making the cut now is blocking our ability to see emails we need. I beg you.Show this thread1 reply 7 retweets 24 likesShow this thread -
Also, I now blocking people who come at the end of a thread and ask/say something that's clearly covered in the thread or linked article. This is a change for me. I used to mute or ignore but I realized that those people make it hard for others because people read reply threads.

I don't mind people objecting at all. But seems there is a 5/95% problem. A few people are contrarians without value, and they contribute disproportionately to noise. I normally like to keep contrarian views in sight—good to check oneself—but it's cluttering things for others.

Anyway, it's really a challenging time for the signal-to-noise ratios out there!

Yeah. The existing tool "hiding some replies" is the worst possible combination.https://twitter.com/AbuIbnTufail/status/1244720503560048640 …

what if there was a network where you had to pay 2 cents per month for every account you followed, and you could only reply to accounts you subscribed to?
