The information I recall hearing from the beginning on masks is that it would be better if everyone wore a mask, but that due to a global supply shortage, it was important for high exposure risks — healthcare, grocery clerks, etc — have them, rather than the general population. ?

this is a counterproductive argument, we're talking past each other. i was also thinking of the older thread ab media misinformation. no one that I've seen write on social media misinfo has diminished presence/prevalence of institutional or media failings. it's an ecosystem.pic.twitter.com/iKYanUmOUF

As I said, if you expected major health authorities would be major sources of misinformation on key issues during a deadly pandemic, and if you believe that this is fairly common knowledge, all I can say is that I did not and I don't think people have grappled with this at all.
