Not wearing masks is exponentially increasing the pileup at the hospitals, putting health care workers more at risk. We can manage the transition through rationing. Everyone would’ve been better off from the start if this had been the recommendation—with rationed distribution.

That’s already here. That’s why we need controlled small amount of distribution with instructions on sanitization/reuse till we can ramp up. Not wearing masks is exponentially fueling an epidemic with substantial asymptomatic spread. Health care worker aren’t then better off.

These are not evidence- based claims you are making. Improper mask use is worse than no mask use at all. Social distancing should be the standard; masks are likely analogous to helmets in football, when people feel protected, they tend to assume more risks.

"Improper mask use is worse than no mask" - What kind of nonsense is this? Anything somewhat blocking your mouth or nose is going to be better than nothing. Even if the mask is upside down.

Wrong my friend. N95 respirators can filter most infectious particles, other masks not so much. "Regular" masks, while mildly effective, result in an increase in users adjusting the mask/ touching their face, thus negating the benefit.

On that, I agree. Still need to educate populace extensively on their use though, because many people still end up applying them improperly, frequently adjusting, etc. Thanks for the clarification though, stay safe out there!

It's not that much harder than, say, proper hand-washing. Entire nations can easily learn to use masks correctly.

Serious question: How many folks are now properly washing their hands? It seems simple to people who understand the underlying principles, but in aggregate education is an undertaking. Humbly suggest the media stop finger- pointing for a moment and focus on educating public.
