Prof. I had the same argument with few people. I feel most people can’t think for themselves. They will only regurgitate news given to them. Even if the masks are not 100% effective whatever they prevent can reduce the cases exponentially.
The Coronavirus virions are spherical particles with diameters of approximately 125 nm (0.125 microns). The smallest particles are 0.06 microns, and the largest are 0.14 microns. If you want to scream at me, then bye bye.pic.twitter.com/BKB3yISOU3
To be even more precise: THE MAIN ROUTE IS INHALATION OF BITS OF SALIVA EVERYONE EJECTS WHEN TALKING. See the research: https://stoptheviruscovid19.github.io/
Empirical data from countries where masks are used (and hospitals) is clear: masks cut risk and reduce spread. Also the amount of exposure (how much virus gets in you) matters. Thinking 100% protection is the only thing worth bothering with is so misguided it's not even wrong.
The original topic was making masks out of tee-shirts. 20% "effective" = 0. People coughing shouldn't be out at a shop anyway. COVID survives on surfaces much longer where lots of people are, like the grocery shop. Touch those surfaces, then touch your face is much more dangerous
