People can see the few countries that have been relatively successful (Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, China after initial screwup) all have, among other things, universal surgical mask wearing. Without CDC guidance, they just go buy whatever masks they find, making things worse.

You have my vote. What they are saying does not comport with logic or science. A physical barrier to transmission is always a greater preventative, which nets fewer hospital cases. If there are not enough, just say that, and then advise people based on truth. This is maddening.

Exactly. There is a shortage. Because they ARE effective, they are needed by health professionals dealing with the disease. But don't pretend they're not effective. The lies are not helpful.
