I’m cringing. This is so embarrassing. A senior advisor to the WHO Sec-Gen appears to pretend his internet cut out when asked an uncomfortable question about Taiwan then just.... hangs up when the reporter presses on.https://twitter.com/ezracheungtoto/status/1243869774410469376 …

The problem here is you're implying that if you wear a mask you're safe. That's not true. Masks may help but they're not a shield. Taiwan implemented many measures early on, which put a lid on SARS CoV 2's spread. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2762689?guestAccessKey=2a3c6994-9e10-4a0b-9f32-cc2fb55b61a5&utm_source=For_The_Media&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=ftm_links&utm_content=tfl&utm_term=030320 …

Point is that Taiwan's eg. demonstrates the importance of early and aggressive responses, not the efficacy of masks. The U.S. and Europe are well past the point where masks will have a meaningful impact. And if people start believing they will, it could make the situation worse.
