This is why the situation requires top down proper communication and control. Absent guidelines that makes sense, people are buying whatever they can get their hands on—including N95s.

Chinese were warning Italy that everyone should be wearing a mask and strict stay at home. We have been told from beginning not to wear masks even healthcare workers. Boston hospitals are now changing that thank god.

Healthcare workers should get theirs first. The rest of us should be sheltered in place except for food, medical and jobs that are 100 % essential. All the cheating going on and companies expecting their employees to show up and work without any PPE is unacceptable.

Telling employees that can’t work from home to show up for “essential” work without PPE’s in place to protect them is unacceptable and fueling the virus.

I see people in public with masks and gloves on--using their phones, touching their faces, removing masks/adjust masks incorrectly. I'm pretty sure most people aren't benefiting from their masks and gloves. Staying home and washing hands is the best practice for the public.
