The problem here is you're implying that if you wear a mask you're safe. That's not true. Masks may help but they're not a shield. Taiwan implemented many measures early on, which put a lid on SARS CoV 2's spread. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2762689?guestAccessKey=2a3c6994-9e10-4a0b-9f32-cc2fb55b61a5&utm_source=For_The_Media&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=ftm_links&utm_content=tfl&utm_term=030320 …

And keeping all the other distancing measures in place. And testing aggressively. Concern experts have is how masks create a false sense of security. People isolate less, wash their hands less, touch their face more, all sorts of negative behavioral outcomes that promote spread.

One last point: All the experts I've spoken to and the modelling studies I've read say the U.S. and Europe are well past the point where masks are effective. Taiwan took steps early. That's what made the difference.

That’s a flatly illogical position to hold. At worst, are we talking 1% of the population being infected now? The vast majority are still uninfected and without antibodies. There’s no way that masks could now be useless where once they were. There is no magic line for “too late”

I'm going to take a little more than one tweet here to explain the logic. First of all, we don't know how many people are infected in the U.S. Testing is still spotty. Secondly, I never said it was "useless"; I said it's not particularly useful. There's a difference. 1/

Most importantly, there is a shortage of masks. I've spoken to dozens of health care workers. They are worried. New masks are being produced but until there is a massive supply, we need to secure what we have for people who need it, including people who have to still work. 2/

Masks will become useful again once the curve starts to flatten. Masks won't help us do that in any meaningful way, as far as I know that's what the experts are saying. They help a little but what we really need are the other measures. 3/

Ok, you're just adding more handwaving. You clearly are either not technically capable of evaluating these truth claims, or are happy propagating lies if you think there's adequate strategic justification for doing so.
