I wish there was more education about how to use and dispose of them (or wash them). The only RCT on cloth mask usage (that I know of) didn't give the participants guidelines about use and cleaning, so the results are hard to parse (or apply to other settings).

No, there is a consensus on most everything that matters. See thread for more info.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1239903421970501640 …

For the @nytimes, I wrote about why health authorities telling people they didn't need masks, and, besides they wouldn't wear them right, misfired and maybe even fueled hoarding. There will be many painful truths, and we need to learn to talk about them. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/opinion/coronavirus-face-masks.html … pic.twitter.com/vBhEbS2rJk

Wait, that's what the CDC, WHO and others prominent folks have said. I am not trying to make it up and I'll check whatever source you're referring to and change it. The recommendations I've read are to protect against all modes.

This is WHO "COVID-19 appears to spread most easily through close contact with an infected person. When someone who has COVID-19 coughs or sneezes, small droplets are released and, if you are too close, you can breathe in the virus"

CDC: "land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly inhaled into the lungs."

Ok. I'm going to read everything again. I'm sorry for this exchange. I have followed all your work on this, I respect your work, and I'll check everything. I promise you I'm not engaging in bad faith. I may have misinterpreted the @ CIDRAP commentary I read.

It's fine, but yeah. I realize it's complicated but words like aerosol mean rather specific things here.

Agreed. The researcher I'm got this from wrote the 2006 Institute of Medicine study on reusable masks. She is saying the CDC and WHO are introducing confusion, by using "inhaling" with what is essentially droplet transmission. No matter, I need to be more careful, more precise.

Really, thank you for calling me out. I've been working on this work weeks. Reading everything I can. Your feedback really matters. And I'm going back to revise some stuff. So thank you.
