No, it's not like the Spanish Flu or Lyme disease, and no, this isn't about excusing the Chinese government at all. Wuhan has suffered so much and it's should be remembered as the land of whistleblowers and heroic healthcare workers. It's just not right, these are real people.

*it. Aargh. This one really gets me. The people of Wuhan have suffered so much. We can have whatever beefs we have in the US internally without adding to their suffering. (I'd be okay with naming a global whistleblower prize after Wuhan doctor Li Wenliang, though)

I wish they hadn't waited until February to give it a name. COVID-19 (At least calling it the "china virus" and the attached stigma would have been greatly reduced).

Dr Lee should be posthumously given the Nobel Peace Prize

While a fair call, Nobel does not do posthumous prizes.

Agreed. What should we call it though? I feel like Trump is so toxic, people are falling all over themselves to oppose anything he says & they actually end up parroting the CCP’s propaganda. The further removed it gets, the more likely it seems they will escape major punishment.

The Spanish Flu originated in Kansas, where they tried to cover it up. Spain was open about it when it reached them and got slandered. Only in that way is it similar!

        Calling a spade a spade seems to help in a war like situation. Both HK/Taiwan call covid19 a pneumonia. https://twitter.com/lwcalex/status/1242161471011704833?s=21 … https://twitter.com/lwcalex/status/1242161471011704833 …

The dumbest part is these past few weeks have proven what a waste of valuable time “finger pointing” is at the moment. It doesn’t make any positive difference so why not deal with the blame game when we’ve got a vaccine?

Worth looking through WHO speeches... Even if not intentional, these are very ambiguous, e.g. if you don't want ppl to compare it to flu: DON'T. If WHO mentioned once that it is viral pneumonia! We get that fact only after Italy, not after Wuhan.https://www.who.int/dg/speeches/detail/who-director-general-s-opening-remarks-at-the-media-briefing-on-covid-19---3-march-2020 …
