I honestly think we need a nationwide public education campaign to help people understand why they should stop buying masks to wear to run errands. You’re not helping anyone, including yourself, by doing that, & you’re contributing to a critical shortage among healthcare workers.

Things I believe: Masks help healthy people avoid contamination from infected people (evidence is all the hospitals clamoring for masks). Masks help infected people avoid blowing virus laden particles into others (seems obvious, tell me if I'm wrong).

In a shortage masks should be allocated to highest risk, highest value users. Hospital staff. In total absence of risk, there is no physical benefit to wear but a cost to buy & wear. Wearing a mask can signal that the user takes contagion seriously, is taking precautions.
