Ridiculous. Gloves don't remove need for hand-hygiene but I've been wearing disposable gloves since February because my skin is irritated from the sanitizer and hand-washing. I even hand-sanitize over the gloves! Teach best practices and let them wear surgical masks and gloves. https://twitter.com/robaeprice/status/1240661482242592768 …

I'd actively prefer shops that provided paid sick leave *and* encouraged surgical masks. Companies, the "image" problem in my head is the grieving masses in Wuhan, the funerals without attendees in Italy, the exhausted healthcare workers everywhere. Not your workers in masks!

Better! Policy with training since gloves are like hands: still gotta keep hygiene. I've been wearing disposables in high-contact environments (teaching/shopping) since February. It keeps me aware, less face-touching, protect hands—but I sanitize gloves.https://twitter.com/alon_levy/status/1240720520393494533 …

I'm really torn about masks... Many people say don't wear 'em because virus gets trapped inside and you'll infect people at home, other say wear 'em to protect the others... Can someone PLEASE give a thorough explanation on why use/not masks in this occasion? :S

Throw yours in the dryer to kill the germs. Then wear it. It reminds you not to touch your face. Virus droplets need to reach your eyes, nose, mouth to hurt you. "However, even surgical masks protect a bit more than not wearing masks at all." https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/opinion/coronavirus-face-masks.html …

The Asian countries most successful at dealing with the virus emphasized mask use, among other things.

As a physician and longtime physician executive, I completely agree. The other mistake was telling people they didn’t need testing unless rigid criteria because of hidden testing shortage. Widespread testing would have revealed covert community transmission (WA state in January)

It's all tragic. Very frustrating. It will now be so much worse than it had to be.

To be fair to WHO, they are advising against mass-masking bcoz of "a worldwide shortage" so they should be used "wisely"; CDC has no excuse. Just FYI - I wrote a blog on the same topic w/ a bit more on how HK and TW increased supply in different ways http://el-essays.blogspot.com/2020/03/to-wear-or-not-to-wear.html …pic.twitter.com/KMEZlVBoKg

Maybe they are a bit more honest in their footnotes but their big messaging has been "no need to wear a mask until ill"--fully aware that there are asymptomatic cases plus lack of testing.
