One other way the "Chinese virus" thing is just PC culture for own-the-libs guys: it's a term that absolutely does not exist in normal vocabulary, regular people aren't using it in the slightest and you'd seem vaguely loopy saying it in a non-internet conversation.

Yep. Also remember the January/February wave of fairly liberal people who loudly expressed they were worried about the pandemic panic causing racism and lectured how people should worry about the flu instead? Now all three (the flu, the racism and the pandemic) are much worse.

It's already an everyday term based on an apparent increase in threats and accusations made toward Asian Americans. Trump is legitimizing it further. And there's a double stigma for Asian Americans if they decide to mask up.
