Wow. They're not taking this "China virus" thing well. Pandemic meets Nationalism, Part XLIVhttps://twitter.com/KenRoth/status/1239961959732146179 …

The Chinese government just announced that it is effectively expelling all US-citizen journalists from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Time, and Voice of America, including from both mainland China and Hong Kong. https://trib.al/lThnWjv

They've been wanting to do this, and have been doing this long before the "China virus" talk. Not that I improve the "China virus" talk but this is on them.

Read their post. They say this is about the treatment their reporters and bureaus received in the U.S. Take a look, see if they have cause.

Their post is bullshit. Opportunistic excuse. I don't agree with what was done (stupid, pointless, gives them an excuse) but.. They started with expelling real journalists (WSJ) and others for exposing corruption. The admin response was terrible but they just have an excuse now.

Plus, crucially, the US journalists they are expelling are real journalists. I feel like it's such a disservice to the journalists and citizens in China who put everything on the line for free speech to not recognize this is what their government has been wanting to do forever.

The implicit argument, "The Chinese journalists aren't real journalists, like we have here" is rather fraught. That's why previous administrations haven't gone in for this kind of blanket approach.
