    Look, US won't run out of milk, bread or food, but those empty shelves are exactly what happens when you don't flatten the demand curve. Sudden spike overwhelms normal supply.         I don't know how fast the pasta and toilet paper providers can ramp up production, but I'm guessing ventilators and BIPAP machines are a lot harder to suddenly make faster.

        I'd guess that normal people are buying now because they are planning to stay at home for a while, not out of fear of stores running out. That is why it is imperative that authorities spell out a CLEAR plan how they intend to supply the populace with essentials.

        No, you can purchase the necessarily supplies to stay home for a couple of weeks without clearing out 3 store's worth of every brand of TP available in one go. That's what some ppl are doing. You can also flatten the curve and still occasionally run a small errand/get a delivery.
