I keep seeing things saying we are where Italy was ten days ago, but it feels like the big difference is we're actually learning from Italy and doing things they didn't do ten days ago, etc.

They shut down Wuhan when they had 41 deaths and about 1000 known cases. Then they got slammed—while everyone was basically under house arrest. On the other hand the US is not as dense as China or Europe. I think we’re teetering between terrible but manageable and catastrophe.

There has finally been action this week. If everyone stays home for a few weeks, US may ride out the worst with less damage. On the one hand, we know containment works. On the other hand, as soon as drastic containment is lifted cases pick up. I hope this thing is seasonal.

Oh wow, thank you! I had so many people tell me that they prepared and started social distancing in February because of the "it's ok to prepare" article! It may have done more good than anything I wrote, and all I tried was to try to break the prepper vibe around being ready.
