The extremely decisive moves taken today in all the US states with major outbreaks seems like really good news.

From what I've read though, the deaths were probably very underreported, because the hospitals were already overwhelmed when the shutdown happened? Or did I misunderstand that?
-
They were already slammed, somewhat but China is dense! We have a lot more ICU beds by any measure. Plus men smoke more etc. Even with under reporting, say 400 deaths (10x underreporting). Die was cast by then for Wuhan for the next month, but they stopped the month after that.

The NYC briefing on the emergency declaration that's still going on is scary as hell, but they are clearly planning for multiple scenarios that are making me feel somewhat better because there is a team that is knowledgeably managing all sorts of details.

There has finally been action this week. If everyone stays home for a few weeks, US may ride out the worst with less damage. On the one hand, we know containment works. On the other hand, as soon as drastic containment is lifted cases pick up. I hope this thing is seasonal.

Amen. (And can I just say, I've been your biggest fan for YEARS, but have been your especially biggest fan for the last couple weeks, and sending your stuff to everyone)

Are we already closing in on the # of infected that China had? If you presume the real # of US cases was 5m a month ago (who knows, but possible), the math would unfortunately work
