Not true. China's outbreak started in December and they covered up human--to-human transmission till late January. Xi belatedly spoke on January 20th, one day after an official outdoor banquet with 40K people in Hubei. That's the reason we have the pandemic in the first place.https://twitter.com/juliaoftoronto/status/1236025640035454976 …

Worth remembering: 3 weeks into China’s #covid19 outbreak, President Xi Jinping was asking officials at all levels of gov to fight the virus https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/2020/1/27/21082354/coronavirus-outbreak-wuhan-china-early-on-lancet … https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1235411751950221312 …

People should be careful praising other authoritarians whose corruption and cover-ups are the reason we have this global crisis in the first place. Yes, China has since imposed draconian restrictions on hundreds of millions of people. Chinese medical staff are the heroes, btw.

We're screwing up pandemic response in the United States in a major way. Not hard to point that out without praising the very people who caused the whole thing in the first place. It was very containable in December/early January, but Chinese leadership chose to cover up instead.

Yea, Zhong Nanshan was the only person with the high enough authority to formalize the fact that it had gotten that bad when he did. His notoriety added some political cushion that other medical personnel didn't have

The reason we have the pandemic is that no one is actually doing anything serious to fight it. Other than China. They bought the whole world one month of time to no avail. Plus it’s not easy to make a perfect response if you are the first to get hit and no one knows what’s coming.

Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Italy also have moved effectively to control outbreak. Failure--and possible national suicide--is evident so far only in in Iranian theocracy and US and UK kakistocracies.

Exactly. Unfortunately, there is zero evidence the CCP has learned anything and the majority of the Chinese public seems to believe them. Nothing will change. https://intheswamp.wordpress.com/2020/03/05/the-corona-virus-will-not-bring-down-chinas-communist-party/ …

Not really. There was little evidence of human-to-human transmission at the time, since most patients came from the same place (the market). There's a difference between conspiracy and incompetence. It's difficult to cover up what you don't know.

Some are even saying it’s likely it started in October/November, what is a fact it started in Wuhan, and nobody knows how, except patient zero, never went to the food/seafood market, CCP made it worse through lies and deceit
