One reason I love running is that I am bad at it. So bad that nobody can even expect me to be good. Not just *uncompetitive* but *incapable of becoming competitive*. My runs are *audiobook slow*. I will never win a race.
No pressure at all. The perfect tonic to an academic life.

I have couple of hobbies exactly like that including my new one (trail running). I picked it up after my hand injury precluded my regular exercises. (Not allowed to grip or lift...). There's something refreshing about doing things that you're not expected to ever get better at.

My fallback career is opening gyms/club for people who like activities or pushing themselves but without competing or with no emphasis whatsoever on alleged side benefits (weight-loss etc.) to limit the snake-oil and misinformation.
