Because panic can be enormously destructive and there’s menial stuff we can do to remediate the fightable and similarly deadly public-health crisis that’s already among us.

15K Americans and 400K people die from the flu every year is why and most is preventable. SARS around 850. Most likely mutation of this virus is no longer transmutable by humans.

We contained SARS through enormous effort and luck. And barely! It consistently came with fever, which made quarantines work. (This one has a wider symptom range). Another week or two and we might have had millions of fatalities. Near misses aren’t comforting.
