Lina Ben Mheni was among the first in Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia reporting from the brewing revolution—it would be days, even weeks. before traditional media fully picked up the story. She worked so hard to make sure the spark didn't get smothered by censorship and inattention.

Back then, Lina would get called a blogger but citizen journalist is a better term. She went in quickly, equipped with a camera and phone—and enormous bravery. No institutional support, no idea if anyone would care. Her blog was simply "A Tunisian Girl." RIP brave Tunisian girl.pic.twitter.com/39XKR4YxqM

What happened? How did she die?
-
Chronic illness. She had a kidney transplant and had struggled with illness on and off for many many years. She always went on, though. She would post on Facebook about the challenges, but to her last breath, she publicly focused on freedom and the plight of the vulnerable.
