Yep, that “paper” isn’t even wrong. One tragedy of all this is that, at the moment, only the companies can fully study phenomenon such as the behavior of recommendation algorithms. There are some great external studies that do give us a sense—but that’s all we get. Yet.https://twitter.com/random_walker/status/1211262124724510721 …

It seems not possible to have a legislative solution to curb amplification of extreme content linked to maximising engagement, because there's no political consensus. Platforms won't self regulate on that.

This is a little harsh, it's a useful data point even if it doesn't generalize - probably true of a lot of approaches, not just computational ones. The problem is making exorbitant claims, which is in part a problem of publishing incentives in science.

LOL is not the right reaction to this—past work has not found notable differences between logged in and logged out. Yes it would be better to get additional empirical evidence om this q, but this work cannot be dismissed outright

LOL look at you, moving the goalposts, so cute, perhaps try to stop being a radical progressive and maybe have some journalistic integrity, you know, be a JOURNALIST, and not an activist? I know it's tough, but just accept that you were wrong and write a retraction. "INTEGRITY"
