I did manage to drive myself to the ER, in my beloved stick shift Honda! Yeay. But for once I thought an automatic wouldn’t be too bad. Bleeding a ton plus shifting, meh. Also, man, I don’t have a good story to go with it.

I think I’m going to have to figure out speech to text software! Tomorrow I learn surgery rehab and what else happens. But yeah, no touch typing for a while. Upside, I did ask the doctor if I would play the piano! (I don’t now, but seemed like a good time to ask!)

Also they had a TV in the room! Doctor came in just as the news started covering the resounding support for democracy and the protests from the Hong Kong elections. Driving one-handed with all the pain and bleeding took less will power than making sure I listened to the doctor.

I have reasonable insurance and a hand surgeon will do the surgery. (Living next to medical schools has benefits!) I was seen by the ortho surgeon on call (not hand specialist) and he was pretty clear: lots of physical therapy in my future. Ugh. Line up the audiobooks!

So many stories! Thank you everyone. :-) Especially circular saw accidents and recovery people?
To be honest, on my way to the ER, I mentally made peace with losing function on that finger, so I’ll be grateful for whatever I get back. Still going to be an ordeal. Alas.Show this thread -
So update. Biggest casualty is self-respect and how stupid I feel. Alas. Surgery today with a hand surgeon. I *did* ask if I can get on a plane to Hong Kong tomorrow as scheduled. They did say no.
Unfortunately canceling.
My apologies to everyone in HK I had planned to meet!Show this thread -
It turns out my affinity for bell sleeves has an upside. I have sweaters to wear even with a cast! (Not decorating cast—coming off shortly for surgery.) Also, oh my the stories y’all have! Knives and saws!
Human body plus medicine is amazing. Human stupidity (mine!) not so much.pic.twitter.com/JrbuzbV4Y6

Out of surgery, *thank you* everyone for the well wishes. Quite loopy from anesthesia so will stay off Twitter. (I mean, I realize it would be entertaining otherwise. But let’s not!) Apparently a lot of physical therapy in my future, but not coherent enough yet for the details!

I now have my favorite emoji on my cast.
I’m in for my first physical therapy session today. Hong Kong friends, I will do video connections as best I can to keep this week’s commitments! And reading everyone’s accident stories here, I’m surprised anyone has any digits left!pic.twitter.com/kJ41wXEhK6

Yikes. No advice, only condolences and hopes for a full recovery.
