I say this independent of my thoughts on why anyone would need that much wealth, how philanthropy can be unaccountable form a social control and fig leaf (I think @AnandWrites is solid there) and again, I think a good chunk of current wealth is basically monopoly returns.

But Bill Gates is very very clearly saying he will vote for Warren if she's the nominee even though he jokes (clearly mostly joking) that he thinks (mostly incorrectly) that the wealth tax will be huge for him. I think we can correctly infer she's probably not his first choice.

Social media's problem isn't filter bubbles as much as how it facilitates conflict generation part zillion. Again, independent of what one thinks of Bill Gates or his wealth. It's clear that he didn't say he'd vote Trump over Warren because of wealth tax.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1189958945944653824 …

By design, social media fuels this. Conflict is engaging.

It’s amazing how much of our discourse is wasted on taking the least plausible and worst possible interpretation of the thing someone said and then pitching a fit over it.

Strange that he thinks Warren would not want to meet or debate people with money.

Not sure I buy this. People do seem to be getting their underwear in a bunch, but he implies at the end that Warren, though the more “professional” candidate (his word), may not be the most “electable” (again, his word). She’s electable if you support her, Bill. Get on the train.

I interpreted this as Gates saying he hopes the Democratic candidate is electable, i.e. wins the election.
