And it constantly gets worse every year, which is the mindblowingly tragic part.

I had the same experience. I can barely navigate SEPTA despite living in/around Philly for most of my life, Seoul's subway system was so easy to read I thought I'd done it wrong.

Mexico City’s metro was designed to be used by the large number of indigenous Mexicans who don’t read Spanish, it’s incredibly easy to use, the trains run every 10 minutes and it’s cheap too! NYC’s is a convoluted mess on the rare days when all the lines are running

I have next to zero grasp of Spanish so I was shocked that I could navigate mexico city's metro so easily (and safely). Makes total sense about being accessible for indigenous communities! I though it was for tourism. Classic white guy! Sheesh.

Seoul also has an incredible, tiered bus system (with neighborhood, local, and regional express bus routes--all with designated lanes). Everything has a corresponding app. It all makes the US look shameful.
