With this, Facebook is declaring that it won't decide what's an outright lie in political ads but it will decide who is an actual political candidate. The former is much more within their rights (despite all the complexities) but the latter one isn't their job or right at all.

Apparently Facebook can determine if you're a fake candidate, but if you pass that high bar, they can't determine if you're running fake ads. I would say what a joke, but this is one step away of blocking legitimate candidates from running ads.

they didnt determine he was fake, they just determined they dont like the single issue his entire platform is about. Issue candidates are nothing new, "im running to fix this one thing. I will fill that pothole on main and 5th."
@facebook has made an unbelievable error.

Trump ran as a way to enhance his brand not as a serious candidate.

At this stage all I want to hear from FB is "Yes, these are hard problems, we don't have a good solution yet, and we're listening"

*Part* of the problem with microtargeted ads is that they're invisible to everyone except the targets. This at least may be curable - FB could allow anyone to search for current ads with particular topic keywords and targeting. Leaves other problems though.

No, that's just the bs excuse. The real rule is simple. A candidate can pay Facebook to spread lies if they're a Republican (and aligned with 45). If they're a Democrat or independent or opposed to him, they can't. It's really that simple.
