I only share local cases facing immediate crisis where social services cannot step up in time. (Not for lack of trying, believe me! A social worker is on it). Too many cases like this. Lack of few thousand dollars=catastrophic feedback cycle. Lose car so lose job so lose home..

You've almost raised $2,000.
So *tomorrow* they will move out of their expensive and crappy hotel and move to an acceptable place of their own. The kids are psyched! Mom had a day off and SLEPT. Next up, a reliable car and hopefully get mom down to one job (she now works two!)Show this thread -
First update!
Now for a reliable car. We've located a Civic with little over 100K! My own Civic runs great at 200K.
I thought about donating it but it's a manual with all the dents. Anyone know if I can buy a pre-dented stick shift car without an IP?

This is exactly the poverty trap. It's expensive to be poor. I can get away with my pre-dented 19-year old Civic because if it needs to go in the shop or if I drive long distance, I can rent a car AND I can afford to live close enough to work to bike/bus.https://twitter.com/now_grace/status/1184112055101509632 …

Just passed the halfway mark for this single mom with two kids! To repeat: no other immediate help is available. Social services often step in *after* the catastrophe. That makes it more expensive with a lot more suffering. Support now can stabilize them. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-a-homeless-single-mom-and-her-2-kids …

This fundraiser has only $1750 to go! Yesterday the mom got the day off just to sleep. (Seriously, she just slept!) Tomorrow, they move out of the hotel! Last bit is a reliable car. Would be great to tell the kids it's done when they come home from school. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-a-homeless-single-mom-and-her-2-kids …

Almost there! Less than $500 left to give this family pretty good news. They can certainly use a break after all they’ve been through recently. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-a-homeless-single-mom-and-her-2-kids …

Thank you! The mom expresses her gratitude and amazement. It shouldn’t come down to fundraising but here we are. Tomorrow they move to a safe, green place with room for the kids to run around—they’ve been cooped up in a dark hotel room for months. All for lack of rent deposit.

I love the happy updates. The kids are no longer living in the dark, small hotel room and they have a new-to-them reliable car. Thank you, everyone! Mom sends her gratitude. They’re very happy.

Thank you! So much hidden poverty where I live mostly because of housing costs and not enough living wage jobs. Kids living in vans, hotels, moving from relative to relative, coming to school tired and hungry despite working parent(s). :-(
