There were a few Starbucks outlets smashed up today by activists. I don’t get the rationale. Another journalist in #HongKong told me he thought it was because the local franchisee was mainland Chinese. Surely this can’t be it? How does that in itself make somebody the “enemy”.
I don’t say to this defend the act at all, but they have a very specific reason on why Starbucks if you actually ask the protesters rather than other journalists.
That’s outright false as I’ve done it for weeks and weeks. They are very very polite, especially to foreign press and very willing to talk.
